BLW Appoints Director in Scotland

BLW is delighted to announce the appointment of Sandy Brownlee as Director.

Brownlee will join BLW to focus on the company’s business in Scotland, maintaining and developing regional relationships and ensuring that challenging risks are met with innovative solutions, underpinned by the company’s traditional values.

Brownlee has over 45 years of experience as a retail broker. He has worked across a number of businesses including Byas Mosley & Co Ltd, Towergate and Lucas Fettes & Partners. He joins the company from A J Gallagher.

In 1983 Brownlee joined Byas Mosley and opened their first office in Scotland, where the emphasis was on the development of the company’s Schemes business in Scotland. Brownlee remained in place when Byas Mosley was acquired by Towergate in 1999, until his departure in 2006.

Brownlee joined Lucas Fettes & Partners in 2006, establishing their presence in Scotland with the opening of their Glasgow office. He was later appointed UK Schemes Manager in 2011. Brownlee remained in situ throughout the acquisition of Lucas Fettes by Stackhouse Poland in 2017 and the subsequent acquisition of Stackhouse Poland by A J Gallagher in 2019.

Brett Sainty, CEO of BLW, said: “This is an exciting time for BLW, as we are celebrating 50 years in business in 2021. Scotland is a place our Board of Directors have always enjoyed doing business and Sandy’s appointment is key to our expansion into Scotland as he has tremendous experience in the Scottish market. Having worked with Sandy when we were both at Lucas Fettes, I am personally delighted to be working with Sandy again. We are looking forward to developing new relationships with independent brokers and direct customers in Scotland, and to supporting them with their challenging risks.”

In light of his appointment, Brownlee said: “I am delighted to be joining the team at BLW and to be working with Brett again. Having spent my career to date as a retail broker, I am very pleased to be taking on this new challenge as a wholesale broker. BLW is very well-placed to assist businesses with the placement of non-standard risks, and I’m very much looking forward to focussing on BLW’s local broker networks and leading the company’s expansion into Scotland.”
